At Ocean Medical
International we try hard to live up to our motto “Intelligent
Solutions to Medical Problems at Sea” and this newsletter highlights
more examples of this philosophy, with a new kit for Dutch-flagged
commercial vessels and a customised kit for owner-cruisers. We also
announce a Paediatric Medical Kit for boats carrying children, which
can be added on to any of our other kits.
As technology evolves so do we and our new customised e-cell data
storage unit is a further example of this. More information on this
innovative development can be found below. We are always happy to be
involved with people who have similar philosophies to ours and it is
with pleasure that we announce our association with Blue Water Alliance
in this Newsletter.
We are also pleased to announce the opening of our re-located Palma de
Mallorca office in the port area, close to all the action and well
positioned to further improve our customer services to you.

- New Medical Kits - Dutch-flag vessels, Cruisers

Dutch flag vessel Medical Kit
- Recently, Holland has established a new registry for commercial
vessels under the Dutch flag. In keeping with standards, we have
developed a range of medical kits to meet the new Dutch-flag
requirements. The kit contents are slightly different from MCA &
Luxembourg standards which we have made adjustments for accordingly.
Cruisers
kit - In response to requests from yachts that are privately
owned with smaller non-professional crew and who do not have to adhere
to MCA regulations, we have developed an economical compact
minimum–stocked kit for up to 3-6 crew/passengers.
With choices to expand the kit to suit your needs, there are numerous
optional extras to select from. This is deal for ARC participants and

Paediatric Medical Kit -
This kit has been developed for yachts with families and is essential
for busy charter vessels where you never know who you will have
onboard; an all-in-one kit, packaged in our water-resistant Grab Bag
with Instruction Guide on treatment of injuries & illnesses, and
use & administration of medications.
Additional medication and equipment, including:
• Paediatric blood pressure cuff
• Tympanic (ear) thermometer
• Medications to manage a wider range of paediatric problems • Easy to
follow CPR instructions for babies and children.

Storage
Bags - By popular request we have designed new lightweight,
water-resistant storage bags as an option to store the red & yellow
medical pouches and equipment. Ideal for large motoryachts for the
medical storage cabinet. For smaller yachts or sailing yachts with
limited storage space, you still have the option of distributing the
small storage pouches in more compact areas, for example under a salon
sofa or under a bed. The bags are available in two sizes, large and
small; if you do not have the storage bags and would like to order,
please let us know and we can include them with your next kit update.
OMI Medical database on E-cell storage device
- We have replaced the CD-rom medical database with a clever USB device
that has several additional features. First, as well as providing the
OMI medical kit database, there is a 6-person field medical info
section whereby each individual crew member’s medical history and info
can be added; Items such as, emergency contact info, blood type,
allergies, & medical history etc. Second, the device is waterproof
with an o-ring seal cap. Third, there is an option to store vital
documents info, such as passport, drivers licence & credit card
details etc, in password secure section. The medical database info
remains the same.

Water Alliance - NEW Association
We have established an association with the
Blue Water Alliance, a yacht service & support company, with a
worldwide distribution of offices. We provide a 24/7 medical emergency
support option as part of the Blue Water Alliance Gold membership
programme in addition to providing assistance for maintaining medical
kit supplies.

- Medical Matters - Oximeter
|
The
Finger Pulse Oximeter is a unit that fits on the patient’s finger and
gives a reading of the percentage of oxygen saturation in the blood.
Oxygen saturation falls into many medical situations. Anything that
involves the respiratory or cardio-vascular systems can affect oxygen
saturation. These include blood loss, heart problems, shock from any
cause including anaphylaxis, respiratory infections, asthma, stroke,
epilepsy and many more medical problems. In a medical emergency,
monitoring oxygen saturation, in addition to monitoring vital signs,
can be helpful when seeking radio/telephone medical advice and help in
the management of the patient. It is particularly useful for adjusting
the rate of oxygen delivery to the patient. We now supply a finger
pulse oximeter as an optional extra for all our medical kits.
